Powerbeats Pro 2
I had the pleasure of directing live action and CG with an amazing team at Beats, Futuredeluxe, and Swanson.
Brought to life through a dynamic live-action shoot and a refined, fresh CGI aesthetic, the premium three-minute film visualises the advanced and innovative product features.
The film
We was tasked to showcase innovation and collaboration in a singular film using data as a visual driving force. Through dynamic live-action, elite athletic performance and a refined, fresh CGI aesthetic, a premium three-minute film was developed. Throughout the process, from pitch to research to the final film, the team explored the idea of utilising a mix of techniques, to emphasise motion and sound in unison.
Live action
For the live-action shoot, I wanted to capture as much as possible in-camera, creating a world that felt both highly crafted and grounded in something real.
Working closely with a storyboard artist, we explored how movement, set design, lighting and camera could come together to make every frame feel beautiful and intentional. Early TouchDesigner experiments became a key influence on the physical set, with graphic markings translated into the space to evoke the energy of a track or court.
Tracking technology and integrated lighting completed the environment, creating an athletic, futuristic lab that we could capture for real through the lens.
R&D
For Powerbeats Pro 2, I wanted to create a film that felt as engineered and performance-driven as the product itself.
My approach was to bring together live action, performance and technology — constantly experimenting with new ways of capturing the athletes and visualising the product’s innovation.
From high-speed photography and custom camera techniques to scanning, CGI and real-time experimentation, we pushed each chapter to have its own visual identity while still feeling part of one cohesive world.
At the heart of the project was R&D — using experimentation not just to make something technically interesting, but to find imagery and moments we hadn’t seen before.
